The story reflects the status of women in the 19th century, as women’s rights were limited. They had a narrow scope of freedom. Women were like objects created for pleasure. They, if divorced, did not have the right to keep their children.How Mrs. Mallard reflects the woman position in the 19th century? Mrs. Mallard reflects all the previous facts as she rejoices at the death of her husband because she regains her freedom.The repetition of the word “free, free, free” symbolizing her yearning for freedom because she has been repressed by her husband, she wants to lead a life of her own where no one controls her.Why the joy is monstrous? This shows that Mrs. Mallard is feeling pangs of conscious over her joy about her husband’s death.
