Physical features Malaysia is located in Southeast Asia. Bordering Borneo and Thailand. Malaysia takes up a total land area of roughly 329,750 sq km. Malaysia is covered in mountains and forests. The jungles of Malaysia are said to be the oldest in the world. The forests cover roughly two thirds of the country. There are 450 species of birds and many strange animals such as bears, crocodiles, elephants, leopards, monkeys, panthers and rhinoceroses.

Population There are around 20.1 million people in Malaysia. Around half of the population of Malaysia are Malays, the second largest group is the Chinese. Up to ten percent of the people are Indian with a very small number of Orang Asli, the original people of Malaysia.

Climate The climate is hot and humid, although it is cooler in the highlands. The northeast monsoon, bringing heavy rains, blows from November through to April. The southwest monsoon blows from May to October and brings drier weather.
