The Significance of the titles "The Cherry Orchard" and "A Doll's House"

Both "The Cherry Orchard" and "A Doll's House" create images present all throughout the plays, which are even more effective on stage than when reading the plays, because the setting reminds the audience these titles. In the first act of "The Cherry Orchard", the action is taking place inside the house, but the white flowers of the cherry trees in the orchard next to the house can be seen through a window in the back of the stage. In "A Doll's House", instead , all the story takes place in the living room in the Helmers' house and the setting is used to transmit the idea of the doll's house introduced by the title. It is the house Nora lives in as her husband's doll and where she plays with the children as she used to play with her dolls. The use of the Christmas tree which is always on stage is also effective in creating an image related to childhood and fantasy.
