The Search for Philosophicl Truth


“Men and women are on a journey of discovery which is humanly unstoppable-a search for the truth.”1 Although the understanding of “truth” changes over the course of a persons lifetime, the desire to seek out the truth seems to be innately human. “It is the nature of the human being to seek the truth.”2
“All human beings desire to know.”3 Truth is the object of this desire (Paul 38). A truth is something that is universal in that it would apply to all people at all times(43). This desire is due to the fact that man is the only creature who is not just capable of knowing but who knows that he knows. This is because man has the ability to reason(38). “Reason is by its nature oriented to truth and is equipped moreover with the means necessary to arrive at truth.”4 Since man has reason, he feels that he can find truth.
