The Role Of Christ in the Christian Religion

Christianity is based on the teachings and words of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus was born during the life of Herod the Great who ruled Palestine at the end of the 1st Century B.C. December 25 was first celebrated as Jesus¡¯ birthday during the reign of the Roman Emperor, Constantine. The life and teachings of Jesus are the inspiration for Christianity. There is not much information on him in historical texts, so historians use the first four books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John for most of the information on Jesus¡¯ life and his teachings. The main reason for the success of Christianity is because it was open to anyone, whatever race, whatever social status, and regardless of gender, unlike the Jews in that time period. It also did not require any living sacrifice, because they believed that Christ was their living sacrifice for their sins.
