UNC exercised poor judgment by making Sells' book, “Approaching the Qur’an: The Early Revelations,” this year's required reading for first year students. It is one thing to read this on your own and quit another to have it required by your school. It's insensitive and shows misguided priorities.
Sells wrote this book in 1999 to translate the Arabic Qur’an into English for a western audience while still keeping true to the original text.
