The problem with research into violence is there is no single definition of the term ‘violence’

An act of violence is when a person hurts someone or makes them feel sad or scared. There are many different forms of violence, most of them fall into two categories which are emotional violence and physical violence. Emotional acts of violence include yelling, name calling and put-downs. Physical acts of violence include pushing, punching/kicking, stabbing/shooting, vandilism and dangerous behaviour. Emotional violence is just as bad as physical violence because our feelings can be hurt just like our bodies can be hurt. Emotional violence is what children are most likely to experience in the school playground, and it is these emotional acts, that begin a cycle that can lead to physical violence.


We are all aware that violence has been around since the beginning of mankind and descriptions of violence have been around since the bible, which are important in the teaching of lessons and the establishment of a moral code. Television constructs reality...
