The Pledge is a Promise

Our society has become so litigious that we brought a lawsuit against the state for saying the pledge, a time honored tradition, and the court declared unconstitutional. In June of 2002, Michael Newdow filed a law suit against federal defendants for “injuring his daughter when she was made to ‘watch and listen her state employed teacher and her state run school lead her classmates in a ritual proclaiming that there is a God, and that our nation is ‘one nation under God.’”
If the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional then why is our school still saying it? Mrs. Hamburger, Assistant Principal, says “it would be ridiculous to change it [the Pledge] when it might be changed back.” Mr. Newdow is misusing the very rights and privileges symbolized by the Pledge and the Flag. Maybe he should say the Pledge once in a while to be reminded that others have the same rights protected by the 1st Amendment.
