The Persian War

In 499 B.C. a revolt led by small Ionian cities caused the ruler of Persia, Darius, to invade Greece. Nine years afterwards the Persians attacked the small plain of Marathon. Thus, began the Persian War. It would last up until 479 B.C. Over this period of twenty years many battles were fought between the Athenians and the Persians. One of them, the Battle of Marathon was won by the Athenians.
