the pearl

The Pearl by John Steinbeck

1. The problems that face Kino first begin when his son Coyotito is bitten by a
scorpion. At first Kino tries to have his son seen by the doctor but the
doctor does not care because he knows that Kino has no money to pay him. After
Kino finds the pearl he and his wife Juana take Coyotito and go to find the pearl
dealers to sell it and get money to help their son. While traveling they encounter
hunters who they fear might take the pearl so Kino kills them and then finds out that
his son has been shot dead.

2. At parts I felt happy and at others I felt very sad. When Kino finds the pearl I was
happy. I thought Kino would be able to take care of his son and wife, but after seeing
what happens when they try to sell the pearl and what occurs on their trip I was sad
to see that their son was killed. ...
