The Paris Peace Settlement January 1st 1925 THE TIMES Editor: Merry Clarke The Paris Peace Settlement In 1919: Uncovered World war one was one of the most bloody and horrible wars throughout history. It lasted from 1914 to 1918: four years of chaos. Many countries fought in the war but the major powers were Britain, France, and America which were known as the “big three.” And Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy were on the other side. Another country that played a large part was Serbia. There were a great deal of causes behind world war one - long and short term. In 1914 Gavrilo Princip an eighteen year old Serbian student shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. The reason he did this was because in the late nineteenth centaury Serbia had become independent and now wanted to expand. However they were hemmed in by other countries. They also wanted to take Bosnia from Austria-Hungary as most of the inhabitants were Serbian. Most Serbians hated ...
