The Painting

A painting by an artist that I saw at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City recently captivated me. It was a simple oil painting; a man and a woman entering a tall, glass building with large and ostentatious picture windows. On the right hand, there was a family of four entering a Victorian building with small windows and a comfortable atmosphere. The people entering the glass building, which seemed to belong to a corporation were dressed in formal attire, the man in a business suit and the woman in a black skirt with a tie. They had rather serious expressions on their faces. The family entering the other building seemed more relaxed and less bothered with their appearances. The parents were dressed casually, in comfortable clothes holding shopping bags in their hands. One of the children seemed to be covered with sand, as if he had just finished playing on the beach. The other one was just smiling to herself as they approached the entrance to their building.
