The Oval Portrait

The short story “The Oval Portrait” is by Edgar Allan Poe.
A man was on a journey and stayed over night in an old chateau. He was in a very small apartment with many antique decorations and the walls were full of paintings.
He rested on his bed and read a book. By replacing the candelaber the light fell on a so far unseen corner of the room and he noticed an oval portrait, which he thought contained a living woman. He was deeply impressed of the life-likeliness of the portrait. So therefore he looked for a book that could explain the portrait to him.
