The opinions of Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman was born in New Jersey in the year of 1975. She studied in New York at the University college at Buffalo. This is where she began studying painting. She had a keen interest in portraiture from this age. Surprisingly she failed the Photography course, because of technical difficulties. However she later learnt the skills from a different teacher, who was the first person to introduce her to conceptual art. She also took a great interest in altering her appearance to take on the role of various people. She would do this by the use of make-up, clothing and wigs.
She graduated university in 1977 and moved to New York with fellow classmate Robert Longo. This is where she began photographing her famous film stills. Most of the images were of Sherman dressing as famous female film stars. She took most of the photographs herself, although some were taken by family and friends.
