The Odyssey "How Odysseus's sense of adventure got in the way of his goals"

The Odyssey

Odysseus was very curious and often got distracted from his goal. This affected his journey in many ways. His main goal was always to get back to his homeland of Ithaca and to his wife and son. But many times throughout the story it seemed as if his sense of adventure got the better of him and he became more interested in the people he met and the places he went then in his final destination.
One time during The Odyssey when this happened was when Odysseus and his men landed on the island of the Cyclops. After him and his crew got beached on the island right near the Cyclops island, they spent one day hunting and feasting, and then the next day, instead of starting back home, Odysseus decided to take his crew across to the ocean and “probe the natives living over there. What are they-violent, savage, lawless? Or friendly to strangers, god-fearing men?”(9, 94-96) Then, after him and his crew got into the Cyclops’s cavern and saw his cheeses and sh...
