Moral Depravity
“I did not have sexual relations with that woman….Ms. Lewinsky.” Our President, Bill Clinton, said these words after being accused of adultery with his interim. Later evidence proved that he had in fact been fooling around on his wife with this 24 year old woman. Although many people were shocked by this lack of morality, this same basic moral decay occurred in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. In this novel his Characters break the laws, cheat on their partners, and treat other people like dirt.
The characters in this novel show no respect for anyone else, because they are all egotistical. Jordan Baker shows this lack of respect for the well-being of others by living such a careless life and expecting all others to make up for her carelessness. She does this because she is so self-absorbed that she does not care about anyone else. This self absorbency is shown in her golf game as well, if the cheating accusations were true. Another exam...
