The matrix

“The Matrix is everywhere. Its all around us...It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes, to blind you from the truth.”(Morpheus, “The Matrix”) Looking beyond the outstanding graphics and sound effects the movie, “The Matrix”, is an allegorical reconstruction of “The Hero and the Journey” and “The Messiah”; two of the most ancient archetypal stories known to mankind. Characters such as Morpheus, Trinity, and the Oracle help Neo through his hardships with his inner struggle to be “the One”.

In Greek mythology, Morpheus is the god of dreams and the molder from the reality of dreams. He plays an authoritative role in “The Matrix” as the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar, the spaceship which allows them to travel to and from the matrix. Morpheus guides Neo to understand his place in the matrix and his potential to be “the One”. “You have to let it all go Neo. Fear, doubt, and disbelief....
