Analysis of Names: “The Lottery”
It is a nice summer day and children are playing in the square, while waiting for the adults to arrive. After everyone is assembled, Mr. Summers enters with a black box. The black box foreshadows how something terrible is about to happen. In “The Lottery”, the theme is how dangerous and immoral a tradition can be if it is continued without questioning. Shirley Jackson uses her characters names to give her story more depth.
