Have you ever read a short story by Edgar Allan Poe? Poe’s literatures mainly consist of irony, horror and conflict. Shirley Jackson, an author, conveys the same attitude in the short story “The Lottery.” Jackson portrays the same irony used in Poe’s literature by beginning her setting as a calm and sedative atmosphere and ironically ending it in horror and tragedy.
