Lord of the Flies Essay

In The Lord of the Flies the author represents the different types of people in society and their beliefs through the characters in the book. Three of the main symbolic characters are Piggy, Jack, and Simon. Everyone in our society today has a little bit of each of these characters in them, whether they like it or not.

Piggy represents logical thought. He knows how to control his emotions pretty well, and avoids physical confrontation. He resists physical confrontation because he is intelligent and understands the stupidity of fighting that most boys his age and unfortunately, many older men and world leaders. I am a lot like Piggy in this way because I don’t get into fights or look for them. I learned at a pretty early age that if I didn’t like another boy and he didn’t like me, fighting probably wasn’t the best way to become friends sometime in the future.
