The Little Voice Inside Us

Everyone has their own little secrets, something buried deep down inside of them,
making each of us wonder; what secret are they hiding? Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding and Zombie, written by Joyce Carol Oates are two novels that look at the transition from good to evil. Both stories have characters that get trapped in a maze of wickedness. Jack, the antagonist from Lord of the Flies, and Quentin, the troubled middle-aged man in Zombie, are two characters that harness the evil that is inside of them. Jack and Quentin seem like innocent people at the start of the novels, but they change, proving to us that presence of evil in every man.

Jack and Quentin start off as two very different innocent people. In Lord of the Flies, Jack is portrayed as a strict yet powerless young boy. Jack gives orders and his choirboys do not obey him. Jack is also a coward.
