The Lack of Logic behind the Death Penalty


The use of capital punishment in the United States is a major issue up for debate
in which conflicting viewpoints are presented. While some believe the death penalty is effective in both deterring potential criminals and bringing justice to those who have committed such horrendous crimes, others take a different position on the matter. Though I believe individuals who commit murders and other gruesome acts of this nature deserve justice, I do not believe this justice is found in the death penalty. The death penalty does not deter criminals and costs taxpayers far more than an alternative sentence such as life imprisonment. In addition to this, many of the inmates on death row are there only because they received and unfair trial in which they were provided with a court appointed attorney who unjustly failed to provide them with adequate representation.
