The Kilt

The Scottish culture has many traditions that are very different from our American traditions and ways. Although we may know what some of these traditions are, we don’t really understand them. Most of us don’t even know how our American traditions originated, so why should we know about other cultures traditions? Well, it is very important that we know about other cultures; it may be even more important than knowing about our own because knowing about other cultures customs will help to stop fallacies and prejudices which are usually based on misunderstandings or ignorance. One of the Scottish traditions that is widely misunderstood is the tradition of wearing kilts. Virtually everyone knows what a kilt is, but most don’t know how it originated or what it means to the Scottish people.
