The Hot Zone

A fifty-six year old man named Charles Monet lived alone in the western part of Kenya in a place called Sudan. He worked as a caretaker of the sugar factory’s water-pump machinery, a job of which he enjoyed walking two miles across cane fields to arrive at. Charles kept to himself most of the time. He was mostly found of birds, animals and women but not especially a people person. People that knew him said that he had a special way with animals. He could sit among wild monkeys and have them eat food from his hands. He had taught himself much about African birds and even created a friendship with one pied crow that he fed regularly.
Charles planned a Christmas vacation with a girl from Eldoret, of which he paid for companionship, to go camping on Mount Elgon.
