The Horse Whisperer” by Nicolas Evans introduces the reader to Grace

Maclean, a thirteen year old girl, whose free spirited and cheerful. “She had always been

so healthy. Apart from a knee stitched...”(56) A horrible freak accident, which occurred,

would set her off on an emotional journey. This accident would leave her with one leg

amputated and not ever wanting to ride her horse Pilgrim again. Grace would have to

deal with learning to her legs again as if she was an infant taking her first steps.

Grace is left physically and mentally scarred and is now forced to face and

remember the accident, which left her this way day in and day out. The lost of her leg left

felt the same as it had felt when she lost her friend Judith who died in the accident. Now

that same accident would contribute to the death of her leg. “And it was just like it was
