The Great Gatsby

The novel “Great Gatsby” depicts numerous amounts of themes and symbols. Thus, difference interpretations come to exist, one phrase that is argued upon is “They’re a rotten crowd, you’re worth the whole damn bunch put together”. Gatsby is definitely not better than the whole other bunch because of his crooked ways of gaining money, being blinded by daisy’s love and his charade-like personality.

Throughout the entire novel, Gatsby has never openly revealed his way of attaining money, leaving his past in a shroud of cloud. 1) The reason is Gatsby’s money came from illegal means of alcohol, which is prohibited by law. Due to this law-breaking act, he is forced into being a mobster and committing more illegal actions to gain wealth. This makes him a criminal which Tom, Daisy and Jordan are not. 2) Though Tom, Daisy and Jordan have all lied; for Gatsby to be better than all of them, he has to have never lied which is not the case. 3) Gats...
