Humans are both rational and emotional, and depend on each other to maintain a positive attitude. The characters of the novel The Great Gatsby, by F Scott Fitzgerald move through the novel like a bumpy road and cling to each other for stabilization. Money, social power, and drugs make this bond even more important as life gets more turbulent because of it. Through love and hate humans need one another. These human traits are reflected in Scott Fitzgerald’s life and in his literature. The Great Gatsby illustrates how humans rely on emotional codependence to survive.
