The Great Gatsby1. Fitzgerald, Frances Scott. The Great Gatsby. New York: Charles Scribner Sons, 1925.2. Frances Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul Minnesota. Though Fitzgerald was intelligent he did poorly throughout school including his early college years at Princeton. Because of this he enlisted into the military in 1917. After the War his first clear success was This Side of Paradise in 1920. Like Jay Gatsby in his book The Great Gatsby, he found a lavish life hosting many parties. Soon, however, the U.S. economy fell and the “Roaring Twenties” turned into the Great Depression. His wife fell into alcoholism. After this he, like Nick in The Great Gatsby, began to see the world as materialistic and hypocritical. He died of a heart attack on December 21, 1940.3.
