The great gatsby

While The Great Gatsby is a highly specific portrait of American society during the Roaring Twenties, its story is also one that has been told hundreds of times, and is perhaps as old as America itself. The way Fitzgerald uses literary elements within his writings to send his ideas and points across to the reader are definitely one of a kind. Recurring images are strong elements in his writing, as well as extremely interesting. Many symbols of recurring images are heavily used throughout the book and can be found in both the characters actions and physical objects.
One very obvious recurring image is the color green. Fitzgerald purposely uses color repeatedly to send important messages to the reader. The color green is used to describe many different objects such as George Wilson’s face as it hits the sunlight, the hot green leather seats of Gatsby’s car, the fresh, green breast of the new world and, of course, the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock.
