The Great Gatsby

“Gatsby, who represented everything for which I have unaffected scorn.” Jay Gatsby represents everything that Nick Carraway does not like in a person, yet Nick says that the only one in the end of the story that he really cares for is Gatsby. Does he have scorn towards Gatsby?
Throughout The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby’s identity is left somewhat up in the air. For the first few chapters, Jay is portrayed as a mysterious lonely millionaire who throws wild and lavish parties for strangers. As the book goes on we learn more about Gatsby and his supposed past. When Nick asks Gatsby about his past, Gatsby quickly says that is personal, and he changes topics. Later he says that he was at one time in the drug business, and later in the oil business.
