The Fisher King

THE FISHER KING

The Fisher King directed by Terry Gilliam is an eccentric but
fascinating film. Terry Gilliam is also responsible for films of the same
genre, such as, Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Jabberwocky (1977),
Time Bandits (1981), Brazil (1985) and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen,
(1989). Terry Gilliam’s films unite romantic comedy, drama and fantasy with a
flare which other directors, such as, Tim Burton, Peter Greenaway and Akira
Kurosawa have also constructed with much success. Terry Gilliam has most
definitely found his niche in filmmaking and does an outstanding task in
conveying his message of hope and redemption. The Fisher King’s major theme
is the quest for the Holy Grail. This modern day retelling of the myth of the
Fisher King and the Holy Grail in its comical and surreal sense gives the
audience a fortification of righteous moral beliefs in todays’ modern America.
