The First Car

In the early days of June on 1896, one of the first cars rolled out of the assembly line, and this horseless carriage became known as the Quadricycle. This vehicle was “high, black polished, also slab sided, with a little covered balcony projecting from the front to hold a driver and a mate.”(Lacey 47) This car was probably the best car at that time because it could hold three gallons of fuel which was inexpensive. Initially the car had problems with the steering mechanism and its weak frame; however, Henry Ford would come up with new ideas to fix the problems. After he remedied all of these set-backs, Ford “was ready to venture eight miles out to Dearborn.”(Lacey 44) The Prince of Wales was so captivated by this marvelous machine that he had to have one.
