The Farmhand’s Tale

There once was a great lord who had gained the King’s favor
With this he was granted much land to rule over.
Of all the precious things he held close to his heart
His grand horses were what he could not depart.
In a far off country he had captured them by hand
And no one could deny they were the greatest in the land.
Despite of all the power the lord had gained
His greed made him think only of what else he could obtain.
So he told himself, “to gain the fame I wish for
Everyone one must see my greatness, rich and poor.”
The best way he thought to do what he planned
Was to challenge every lord from the hills to coastland.
“To win”, he thought, “I must challenge them at what I do best
And offer them a prize they cannot resist.”
“Instead of an ordinary jousting match,
I must race my horses for they cannot be outmatched.”
So the date was decided and invitations were sent
As everyone prepared for the great event.
