The fall of the Roman Empire was the culmination of many different historical events, however I believe that its resentment towards technology was the critical factor that truly lead to its downfall. In their attempt to be supportive of the people, several Roman Emperors actually sought to ban the machines that replaced human laborers in order to maintain the highest possible level of employment. In fact, they passed a law that made it illegal to build and operate mills. This was one attempt to be supportive of Rome, which suffered from widespread unemployment of its middle and lower class citizens.
