THe Faces of Love

In literature, love can take on many forms. Some writers chose to show love as a destructive force, this allows us to see how unhealthy love can be. Others prefer the healing element. By an individual loving someone they can find what they need to heal what ails them. Eventually allowing them to evolve into a better individual. You will also find a natural, free flowing type, where love just grows and flourishes on its own. Then there is an unnatural form of love that sometimes can be inexplicable and at times the saddest form.

In “A Rose for Emily”, Faulkner exposes us to several forms of love. The love of a father for his daughter, this love can be seen as destructive. Mr. Grierson drove away all of the eligible suitors for his daughter. That later causes Emily problems, the love of her father is all she knows. I think this distorts her view of what love actually is. How can one know the difference between the two if it has never been experienced? It is in this way Faulkner...
