The Ethicality of Photography Retouching

With the rising popularity of digital cameras, more and more photo enhancing software is being created everyday. This software enables users to modify pictures to make them look more appealing by removing facial blemishes, wrinkles, or out of focus items. Many professional photographers use this process to touch up photos from an important occasion such as a wedding or graduation. It also enables users to add or delete main foci within the picture.
In this case, the latter usage was utilized. A picture was fabricated out of two original photographs. This led the viewer to believe something that was not true. However, the bigger problem lies that this was not merely a touch up, it was a composite passed off to a large group of people to be an original. Not only was the photo retouched, a person was added.
