The End of British Rule in America

A historian once wrote: “The British ruled the colonies for one hundred and fifty years and lost them in twelve.” The British rule in the New World really did begin when the empire began to establish major settlements in the colonies in the 1620's and 30's, indeed, nearly one hundred and fifty years before the colonies’ declaration of independence in 1776. Following the century and a half of British rule, there were a number of events in the twelve years between the declaration and the end of the Revolutionary War, that led to the demise of British rule in the colonies of North America.
