The Enchanted Kiss by “O Henry”

William Sidney Porter, the man who created “O. Henry,” the most Famous American pen name (second only to that of Samuel L. Clemens’ “Mark Twain”) wrote many short stories. O. Henry was born in North Carolina on September 11th, 1862. It is an amazing that he wrote many of his first stories while in prison. His first short story ever to be published was, in fact, published while he was being tried before he was sent to the federal penitentiary in Ohio. O. Henry is best remembered for “The Gift of the Magi” and “The Ransom of Red Chief.” Henry had a “trademark” in his short stories. He was known for his surprise endings, which would jump at the unsuspecting reader. O. Henry applied this trick by not giving away all the information the reader needed to fully understand what is going on in the story. In “The Enchanted Kiss” it was no different.
