The Danube River

The Danube River
The Danube River is the second longest river in Europe, after the Volga. It flows through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldavia and Ukraine. It is one of the major methods of transportation in Europe. One reason for this is the fact that it is the only major European river to flow west to east. The source of the river is located in the Black Forest area of Germany. From there, it flows about 1,770 miles to the east. The mouth of the river forms a delta on the Romanian coastline of the Black Sea. It is 2.850 km long; the navigable part is 2.414 km.
The Danube River has also been used as an important means of transportation of soldiers for nearly 2,000 years. It is in the center of the European network of navigable inland waterways. After the Main-Danube connection was created, Danube became a part of the trans-European waterway linking seaports at the North Sea (Rotterdam, Amsterdam) and at the Black Sea (Constanca)...
