The Crucible

Each character in "The Crucible" have thier own unique personality that adds wonderfully to the play. The story takes place in Salem, Mass. in 1692 during the Salem Witch Trials. Arthur Miller uses the characters John Proctor, Abigail Williams, and John Hale to illustrate very depictively the chaos of Salem, Mass during the witch trials.

John Proctor is a good, honest, God-fearing man with one fault-adultry. John Proctors lost for Abigail Williams led to an affair that Abigail took serious. John Proctor knows of his wrong doing and can't forgive himself of it. He learns of Abigails psycological rampage of the townand of the accusation of his wife, Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft. He knows of all the deciet and the lies and the only way to save his wifes life is to admit commiting adultry. He tries every other way to get his wife pardoned but in the end the confession is not even enough. He is accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. Judge Danforth and Hanforth of...
