The Crucible

Throughout The Crucible, a play based on the true events of Salem, Massachusetts, during 1692, a theme of integrity arises. Rebecca Nurse is a wonderful example of such a theme. She is introduced during the play as an elderly woman who has white hair and needs a walking stick to help her get around. She was married to a man named Francis, who earned great respect because he was called upon to reconcile disputes, almost like an unofficial judge. Rebecca herself earned a great deal of respect, mainly from experience. As a seventy-two year old woman, she had eleven children and twenty-six grandchildren.
