The Crucible - John Proctor (character Analysis) John Proctor is one of the main characters in The Crucible. He is a farmer in his mid-thirties, powerful of body and with strong moral believes. He is married to Elizabeth Proctor and has three sons who he truly loves. Proctor is man with lots of clear opinions, which gives him lot of conflicts. First of all he has to try to accept and forgive himself for having a love affair with 17-year-old Abigail Williams. He regrets it but he doesn’t know how to handle it. He obviously doesn’t have the same feelings for her that he has for his wife and I think that he realized that and ended the affair. But can he forget himself and make sure it won’t happen again? He still likes Abigail at the beginning of the play, but as he story goes along he starts to dislike her and sees that she’s nothing but a lying immature kid and as he does that he also understands how much his wife really means to him.
