The Corruption of Humanity
Novels often share multiple themes with other types of writings such as poetry. In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, written by Erich Maria Remarque, one central idea from the controversial novel is also in correlation to the poems, “The Death of a Soldier” by Wallace Stevens and, “Disabled” by Wilfred Owen. All Quiet on the Western Front illustrates one key idea that relates perfectly to the two poems previously mentioned. That one central idea is the basis for all other themes in the novel, and is understood to be that war corrupts the soldier through dehumanization and makes soldiers unsure about who they really are.
In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, it is clearly portrayed that war dehumanizes soldiers by transforming them into instinct-relying animals.
