The Conflict of Divine Law and Human Law

The conflict of divine law versus human law can cause dissension between the authority of the throne and the religious beliefs of another. First, contrasting the views of divine law as opposed to human law as they are seen by Antigone and Creon. Second, Creon’s authoritative view of disobedience to human law and disregard to the conflict it can make on divine law. Finally, Antigone’s belief that divine law has priority over human law. The conflict between human law and divine law cause many problems between Antigone and Creon through the entire play of Antigone.
The contradictions of the laws are strong throughout the play. Antigone supports divine law. Divine law can be described as the law of god, or in this case, the law of the gods. This type of law involves morals and beliefs presented by the gods. Divine law usually has effect when the idea of morals are apparent, such as when a moral decision must be made.
