The Computer and the Child
Over the last decade an estimated two billion dollars has been spent on more than two million computers for America’s classrooms. (Gelertner, David 137) Obviously, computers are becoming more and more common in our schools today. While some would say that computers aren’t good for kids’ learning, others would agree they can make a world of a difference in the learning process. Computers are providing students with an alternative learning source rather than the traditional teacher and textbook. Students seem to learn more and are much more active when using computers and the Internet.
When working with kids, a teacher's teaching can only go so far. With computers, teachers can pass knowledge on to their students by getting them to explore a computer's tools or the Internet.
