The Characters who had impacts on Holden

¡°Phony.¡± It is the word Holden often uses to describe people whom he does not like. Jane, the nuns, and Allie are the few of the people that Holden does not see as phonies; therefore, they play important roles in the novel by influencing and revealing Holden¡¯s character in various ways. First, Jane shows Holden¡¯s immaturity of a hope that nothing changes although time goes by. Secondly, the kindness of the nuns affects Holden by revealing his intelligence in literature. Lastly, Allie shows the delicate side of Holden.
First, Jane reveals the childish side of Holden, hoping impossible things such as everything remains unchanged forever. Even though Holden kept thinking about calling Jane, he actually never called her in the novel. He always said that he was not in the mood, but in fact, he was afraid to see her changed. For example, he said, ¡°I thought of giving old Jane a buzz, to see if she was home yet and all, but I wasn¡¯t in the mood¡±(105). In ad...
