“The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne the best I could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge” from “The Cask of Amontillado” is the story of a twisted and deceitful man that was looking for revenge. Descriptive details created an eerie and suspenseful mood in the story. Edgar Allen Poe uses foreshadowing to suggest an inevitable outcome of death in the story. Edgar Allan Poe uses symbolization to describe how Fortunato, the antagonist of the story, was going die. When the Montresor told Fortunato that he can go back up to the town from the deep crypt they were going into and he will bring Luchesi, one of the Montresor’s friends, to check if the Amontillado was real, but Fortunato would not go back.
