Have you ever traveled on the Old Habour Bypass? Remember that long stretch of smooth, pothole less paved road that seem unending? Now picture a highway of these same components, while traveling from Kingston to Montego Bay in less than three hours. The building of Highway 2000 should not be suspended until conditions in Jamaica are more favourable.
Firstly, if the project were suspended there would be no means of employment, thus crime rate will increase. Unemployed persons would then have to find other means of employment, which 80 percent of the time might not be legal. We would have illegal vending along the highway, which is quite prevalent in Jamaica. We would also have illegal taxi operators plying the routes of major towns that are linked by the highway.
