The Boondock Saints: A Dramatic Perfection


When this assignment was given, I started thinking of the catalog of movies in my head and what would best fit into this paper. After some deliberation I decided upon one of my favorite cult classic films, “The Boondock Saints” by up and coming Irish director Troy Duffy. A film, which captures the audience from the first scene all the way until the stunning conclusion. In this paper I will attempt to show how this film brings the viewer in, holds them, and meets all the elements of what a classic film should be.
First and foremost a viewer wants to be sucked into a movie from scene one. The opening scene shows South Boston (also known as Southie) on Saint Patrick’s Day in a catholic church. A priest preaching about apathy and two brothers walking up to the pew and kissing Christ’s feet. Then there is a montage shot of the day in the life of the two brothers (Conner and Murphy).
