The Aztec Religion and its Importance
The Aztec religion did not survive the Spanish conquests, but it is still a very interesting religion to study if only for the fact that it is different from all the other religions out there today. It was very important because it shaped the way the Aztecs lived their lives as well as how their society lived its. For my information, I used The Aztecs of Mexico by G.C. Vaillant. Why was their unique religion so important to the Aztec peoples? Simple, it determined every single facet of their living experiences from survival to basic every day needs.
Their complex religion and their ideas about how the world kept going on depended on ceremonies and sacrifices. These peoples believed in a different calendar from us which had more months than our calendar today does. They had eighteen months with twenty days apiece.
